As explained in his personality section, Darim is loyal to the Assassins above most everything else because from an early age, he was taught that it was his duty to help their cause. He was always taught that he Assassins were on the right side and because he was born into it and his family was at the center of it all, he never really thinks to question it. It’s just his obligation to carry out the missions given to him and to help the Assassins and he has no intention of changing that belief now.

Personality;
Darim is generally a very calm person and patient as well. In situations where most would probably rush into things or act without thinking, Darim manages to keep himself focused and doesn’t let the chaos of a situation get the better of him. When he figures out who is behind the death of his family members, he does get angry and insist on revenge right that moment, but instead he remains calm and acknowledges that revenge will come at a later time. He knows that there are more important things to worry about in that moment, and fights against all impulses to make Abbas pay for what he had done.

In addition to this generally calm attitude he displays, he also shows great restraint. Again, this is perfectly shown in the way he does not insist that he and Altair turn back to get their revenge, but instead continues on with his father to leave Masayf and leave revenge for another, better time. But he does not just show restraint in his actions, he also shows restraint in the things he says and asks. When his father tells him that he will explain everything that had happened leading up to Maria’s death, he does not press for answers, but trusts that his father will tell him everything he should know when the time is right. He does not press for answers in any situation when it is clear that they are not answers he has any business knowing and forces himself to be satisfied with that.

This, of course, is not to say that Darim is satisfied with being ignorant. On the contrary, Darim is quick and intuitive and he needs very little clues to piece things together. When he and his parents return from fighting Genghis Kahn, he knows right off the bat that something is wrong; when he is trying to figure out why Altair would build a library, but not keep any of his books it takes little more than a look for him to realize that the “library” is actually a vault. So rather than being content with ignorance until someone feels like educating him, Darim is patient. He knows not to over step his boundaries and he knows that if he needs to know something, he will learn it eventually. However, should Darim feel he should not have to wait to learn something, he will find a way to figure out exactly what that something is and, for the most part, he is able to figure out exactly what he wants to know in a relatively short amount of time.

For all of Darim’s patience, however, he does have a breaking point. When he has lost his patience with waiting to learn something, he reacts with very little fanfare and does what he needs to do quietly so as not to make a scene. When it comes to his patience with people, however, he does not react quite so well. Darim does what he can to help those he cares about, he wants to see the people around him happy, especially when they are family. He will do whatever he thinks will help and if it doesn’t work the first time, he will simply try something new.

But this ability to keep trying new things over and over again takes its toll on Darim and after so many times of trying and trying with no success of making anything better, his temper comes out. Where once he would have been calm and patient and willing to answer any question—no matter how stupid he might really think it is— with a level tone and no indication that he does think the question is stupid, he will now react with insults. He will no longer tolerate having to repeat himself over and over again or having to remind someone of events long since passed. Altair, Darim’s own father, is no exception to this. After ten years of trying to help Altair move past the death of his family and closest friend, even the simplest things start to set Darim off until he just leaves Altair entire. In his mind, if Altair is ever going to get better, it clearly won’t be with Darim’s help, so why stay and stress himself out further?

Despite everything, Darim holds his father in extremely high regard. Darim knows this He knows the stories of what his father once was and even when Altair is at his worst, Darim stays with him for ten years, fully believing that Altair would be able to raise himself above the influence of the Apple and beat whatever demons are haunting him. Even when Darim leaves him, it’s less that he’s given up on his father and more that he’s given up on his own ability to help. Everything Darim learned, he learned from his father, and everything he is, he wouldn’t be without Altair. It’s a fact he never lets himself forget and so even when things seem like they will never get better, he always hold some amount of hope that his father will get better.

Above most all things, Darim is loyal to the Assassins—or more accurately, to his father’s teachings. Unlike Malik and Altair, Darim feels no real attachment to the Brotherhood. He was born into it and he was taught of the Creed and everything that goes with it from the moment he was able to understand ideas and concepts. Even thinking of it as something that brings him closer to his father doesn’t provide any extra motivation to remain loyal. The Brotherhood as his father ruled it is all he has ever known and so he follows his orders and carries out his duties because he really knows to do nothing else and the option of questioning those teachings was never really an option for him. For him, the way of the Assassins as his father led them is the only right way and the only way he is really interested in following.

[ he switches between text, audio, and video rapidly, as though he’s checking to make sure each function works. the maid who greeted him had explained how it all works, but he’s still skeptical. suddenly waking up to find yourself in a strange place with no recollection of what happened to bring you here will cause that in a person. not to mention the lack of any real communication technology in his time. finally, he settles on video.

his robes are likely very familiar to at least a few of you here and some of his features maybe be somewhat familiar as well. his father is here, after all. ]

I would ask if this is a dream or perhaps an illusion caused by the Apple, but I suppose this is too elaborate for that. [ not that he actually knows what’s too elaborate for the Apple. his father has never let him near the thing, let alone let him use it. ]

Before I ask about anything else, I would like to know one thing. What are the chances that the person I was with prior to this was brought here as well? It’s someone close to me. I would prefer not to be separated from him. [ sure. that’s a simple way of putting it. ]
